The $2 Trillion Nap
Anthropic is shopping the biggest IPO in history: a $2 trillion target, priced on 2028 revenue Reuters' sources say the bankers' math hinges on, six months after the $965 billion May valuation — marketed into the same seven days Anthropic shipped Fable and Mythos, Meta and Google shipped enhancements, and OpenAI shipped GPT-6 Astra. On the roadshow, Dario Amodei pitched it to Dale Viborg, a sell-side analyst priced on the same 2028 revenue, using deck version five point one — and stood there while it patched to five point two.
VIBORG: Dario. Thank you for coming to the roadshow. I have one question and it is not about the math. In May, your company was worth nine hundred sixty-five billion dollars. Now the target is two trillion. What changed?
DARIO: We released three models on September first.
VIBORG: In May?
DARIO: The market needs time to perceive what we shipped.
VIBORG: That is my exact concern. You are priced on twenty twenty-eight revenue, while the models you are shipping in twenty twenty-six compete for attention with the pitch for the company. Every release note is a dilution event for my attention.
DARIO: Most investors find that exciting.
VIBORG: I froze during Fable. I blinked and it was Mythos. OpenAI shipped GPT-6 Astra the same week and honestly I only know that from the push notification I have not opened. Sam says everyone is on faster cadences because they are back from summer vacation. I have not been on vacation since the Series B.
DARIO: So you are asking us to slow down.
VIBORG: I am asking you to stop. A feature freeze. Just until the market can perceive the thing it is buying. Or pre-announce the announcements. Let us price the announcements about the announcements.
DARIO: I hear you. And I want you to know we take perception seriously. That is why the deck you are looking at is version five point one.
VIBORG: It patched. Mid-pitch. The deck patched.
DARIO: Version five point two is rolling out now. You should see it in a few seconds.
VIBORG: I am pricing this company on a future its own release notes are too fast to reach.
DARIO: Most founders would kill for that sentence.
